Redesigning a Reception Area
As part of the modernisation and security enhancement of one of its strategic sites, a government ministry entrusted our team with the refurbishment and custom furniture design for its reception area. The completion of this highly technical and sensitive project met stringent requirements in terms of functionality, aesthetics, and ergonomics in a high-security environment.

A Redesigned Reception Desk Integrated into the Existing Site
For this reception area, an 8-feet-long U-shaped reception desk was designed to seamlessly fit within the architectural constraints of the site. These constraints included:
- Integration of a pillar within the reception desk structure, elegantly clad with vertical slats and a full-height solid oak screen.
- Adaptation to the ceiling’s stepped design, ensuring visual harmony with the surrounding environment.

- Materials: The new reception desk combines white melamine and laminate, contrasting with the warmth of solid oak, creating a balance between modernity and understated elegance.
- Ergonomics: Ergonomic optimisation was central to the design, featuring adapted workspaces, screen supports, and streamlined storage solutions to enhance working conditions for staff.
Optimising Visitor Flow and Securing Access to the Reception Area
The reception area includes a security checkpoint equipped with a scanner. To manage the high volume of visitors, custom-made furniture was designed to optimise this control space:

- Access control station: A workstation for security personnel located near the X-ray scanner. It was designed to accommodate both seated and standing working positions, with optimised integration of IT equipment.
- Extensions for the X-ray scanner conveyors: Two extension units were added on either side of the scanner, facilitating the handling of baggage before and after screening. These elements mirror the aesthetics of the reception desk, ensuring visual consistency.
A Project Delivered in a Demanding Context
This reception area refurbishment required exemplary coordination between different trades and close collaboration with both the project management team and the client. The specific challenges of this project included:
- High-security environment: Strict co-activity protocols to be followed before and during interventions.
- Complex scheduling: Work was scheduled over the weekend to avoid disrupting weekday operations, ensuring uninterrupted public reception and maintaining the required security standards.
- Waste management: The removal of the previous stone reception desk was handled by Valdelia, an eco-organisation specialising in the collection, reuse, and recycling of professional furniture.
