Harvest 2023!
Honey from our beehives Workshop led by UNAPLA The 2023 harvest took place in our workshop! The team had the opportunity to participate in the uncapping and extraction steps, but also… to taste the honey at its source! Thanks to Émilie from UNAPLA for her passionate and fascinating explanations.
Summary of the stages of our harvest:
Step 1 : Patrick, the beekeeper in charge of our hives, came to remove the hive covers. Signaling his presence to the bees by smoking them beforehand, he gently lifted the frames one by one. (Note: Honey harvest is carried out on the frames in the upper part of the hive, known as the “super.” The frames in the lower part, called the “brood chamber,” serve as reserves for the bees during the winter.)
Step 2 : The frames were stored in our workshop.
Step 3 : 3 days later, Émilie came to set up the temporary honey house.
Step 4 : Using an uncapping fork, we removed the wax layer to release the honey contained in the cells.
Step 5 : v
Step 6 :The extracted honey was poured into a ripener (large stainless steel drums) where it will rest for a few days. During this time, small impurities, such as pieces of wax, rise to the surface and can be removed.
Now, it’s time for jar packaging! 🙂
